Greetings of Hope and Joy from Vatican City!
Today, on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the Holy Father Pope Francis promulgates the Apostolic Exhortation Laudate Deum, updating Laudato Si’.
Emphasized by Cardinal Michael Czerny, S.J., Prefect for Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, this new reflection will help us to refresh and make current our “reading” of the climate crisis and to strengthen our commitment to “Care for our Common Home”.
The materials (which include the document, introductory video and infographic) is available on the site www.LaudateDeum.org.
The best preparation for Laudate Deum is to re-read Laudato Si’ Chapter 1, “What is happening to our common home” and ask: “Between 2015 and today, what has worsened? What is better? What can and should we do?” Laudate Deum will assist ministries implementing Laudato Si’ to continue and indeed intensify. It will also help the Church to make its contribution to the very important Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, 30 November to 12 December 2023.
Let us entrust the new Apostolic Exhortation Laudate Deum, along with the Encyclical Letter Laudato Si', to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the intercession of the Most Blessed Virgin, of St. Joseph the Protector, of Saint Francis and all the Saints.
I assure you of my prayers for your ministry and for all who are entrusted to your care.
Cardinal Sebastian Francis
